Don’t people know they shouldn’t divulge their identifies on the internet? Or is it a rule only those of us of older generations who still have a concept of privacy and self-preservation apply?

It’s crazy how open the general population are on the internet.

Recently I tried to make a Facebook account with fake details just to get on marketplace since it seems to be the dominant platform these days. I almost had it done, then it said “ok prove you’re human. We will need a 360 degree video of your head”

      Uhhh no.

What a big ask. What a slam dunk for their platform.

I have a very, very old Facebook account I created some 20 years ago, back when Facebook was new. I created it with a throwaway email address. I use it every so often to check Facebook pages of associations or organizations I’m interested in, and it has a totally BS profile complete with fake bio, fake photos of me and my fake family, and ultra boring life events I regularly add to to maintain a plausible fake persona, should someone ask me to justify that I’m a “real” person using an old bona-fide-looking Facebook account.

When I log in, it never asks me anything at all. I guess old accounts are exempt from Zuckerberg’s corporate surveillance hysteria - or more likely, Facebook forgot to upgrade them.

Especially with higher academia, they still think we live in a world where authority is respected.

So given the choice between “anonymous account” and “Dr ____, Professor of ____ at ____” it shouldn’t be surprising they’re putting way too much info online.

But yeah. Absolutely no one should be putting any of that info online.

Right? I know I can get fired for that shit. We can’t even contact our representatives or post about anything political without asking the university first. You think they’d approve anything but lock-step fascist views? No. It’s not right, it’s horseshit, but you don’t need social media tied to your real life identity if it threatens your livelihood. If you have zero money, you can’t do anything to change that. Go ahead and try voting around here without a fucking permanent address.

Ah, the firings over opinions that, according to maga, the ineffable, infallible, indisputable, angel of compassion himself, Kirk, would say is what america is all about.

It’s funny how the USA/CIA caused so much shit overseas and in the southern Americas to foment generation after generation of “terrorists” - and now, they [trump regime] are going to be growing their own with all the love.
