Since multiple communities i moderate are ai related, posts often get anti ai downvotes from people from the wider lemmy.

Something I learned to do that I am now doing with all my communities is this.

Let’s say i post an ai image. It get’s 5 downvotes by anti ai people who, instead of block the community to not see the content, attempt to attack and force the post downward. Just by doing so, they show their intent is to harm content reach instead of support it and that the community is healthier with them unable to touch it. So I then select each of the 5 downvoters and select ‘ban from all moderated communities’. Sounds simple enough, right? And it’s sort of power trippy. I don’t even bother typing reasons. And eventually the community would be cleansed.

But here’s the trick.

Make a post with content matching what is appropriate for your community. Do the normal banning of downvoters. Then edit the post to change the title and then delete and hide it. Then post again the exact same content and title. Again weed the downvoters. Again delete and repost. I call it SpeedCleansing. And at the end of it, you are left with an unattacked post which can finally stay up.

Enjoy

Do you think instead of downvoting a post, everyone should block a community instead?

excuse me but you aren’t aggressive enough for this area.

i haven’t really thought about it. generally tho i don’t reach out to harm people when they haven’t harmed me. so if there is a community i don’t want to see, like about some anime, I block it so i don’t see it instead of do anything negative to them. I know I’m the minority though.

i mostly use downvotes to feedback bad behavior; nothing to do with communities i don’t want to see.

Edit: LMAO I got banned from their trash instances, at least I won’t have to look into the dumpster fire anymore! 🤣🤣🤣 I earned five badges of honor this day. ROFL

Wow, that’s kinda, sad…I guess this is what AI lovers are doing these days, desperate for approval instead of accepting their tastes are actually uncommon (weird). Bully for you, I guess; keeping those plagiarism machine genned image posts clean of downvotes isn’t worth all that effort in my personal opinion.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just move your community to an instance that disabled downvotes?

Anyway, why are you so afraid of downvotes? People subscribed to the community will see the posts, others won’t. How do downvotes affect this?

oh its not really a fear thing. i have a personality trait where im not really a fighter; i like to only be interacting with mutually supportive people. i dont have time for anyone else so i do steps early of disconnecting from them. my personal block list is also extremely long. many people in this thread are already blocked in fact. good point i could go to like blaja or somewhere with no downvotes. but nah :)

okay? good for you, i guess. i think that’s well within your purview since the voting system is meant to grade relevance, not agreement. this is also really standard practice so i don’t know why you brought attention to yourself doing it. once i’m back at my laptop i’m going to block your communities because i don’t want to see or participate in them. save you some effort

I’ve never understood, how does a mod see who the downvoters are? Or do you administrate an instance as well?
