Idk about the commenter you responded to but maybe they bought it on different platforms. I’ve purchased it on 5 platforms on 7 occasions iirc. Now the Xbox 360 Edition, Xbox One Edition, “Minecraft” on Xbox (sucks, looks like an MCPE port) and Java Edition are connected to one M$ account, I don’t play MCPE anymore but that used to be offline, no account besides Google/Apple.
Any minecraft version is free with a little bit of trickery
