I don’t mean to cause a mess all over the chairs when the sort of people who use Fediverse read this but:

    spoiler

    TRAINS

With that in mind, ships are more efficient than trains at moving cargo per cost of fuel at about a 5:4 ratio. It’s like losing 20% of profit, and for a full oil tanker that’s about $60-80M USD lost.

Shouldn’t be any issue with Oman, though. They seem kind of nonhostile.

EDIT: The cost is about $95,000 /km up to $250,000 /km and from Port Zayed Dubai to Port of DUQM in Seeb is 367 miles or about $91,750,000. The trains would also allow transport of many other goods, some of which could be considered quite valuable to Dubai both economically and for defence, given their current situation. There already exists roads along this route. If they can’t use the strait then this amount could be justified after only a few days, if they lose a ship then it’s justified in a single moment.

As much as I am a fan of rail, pipelines are safer and more efficient and don’t have as much difficulty with sand drifting. Especially with a train to nowhere as this would be.

But it’s a crappy workaround in any case.

I feel like the train is more future proof than the pipeline, but I suppose if the pipeline ran underground it might alleviate issues with elevation differences. I wonder how that all compares for the timeframe to implement.

Train from one place to another is more useful once the strait opens for sure.

Canada has a pipeline running over the Rocky Mountains. Elevation will be fine. But it will be susceptible to munitions.
