I’m erring on the side of an NSFW tag, as some language from the chat log may not be suitable for those not in the UK.
From the I’m-really-really-sorry-I-got-caught dept.
A Vermont state lawmaker has resigned over racist and antisemitic chat messages that circulated within the Young Republican political group, another substantial consequence in a scandal that on Friday saw the New York state Young Republicans’ charter revoked.
State senator Samuel Douglass, the only elected official known to have taken part in the leaked group chat exposed by Politico, resigned Friday over his participation.
In a statement posted online, the 26-year-old Douglass said he was “deeply sorry for the offense” caused by his comments. He added that his decision to step down, effective Monday, “will upset many, and delight others, but in this political climate I must keep my family safe”.

In my humble opinion, I will add that had these “edgy” bs comments that “kids” say, as Vance defended, been uttered by a person of color or another marginalized group, there would be the absolute hardest-line response. They would bring the hammer down on these ‘r@dical d0mestic terr0rists’, and they wouldn’t stop until their whole network of family and friends felt pain for this misstep, leaving them as an infamous example. Do we see that happening in this case? Will we see similar consequences? This double standard tires me to no end, and it’s seemingly always okay when the “good ol’ boys (and girls’) club” conveniently step out of the spotlight and into comfortable silence. I find this injustice unacceptable.
This country was made for miserable White folk, and god dammit, we’re going to force what the Founders intended. No freedom without oppression!
