I am unimpressed because a majority of answers are at least slightly bullshit, and very often they are entirely incorrect.

Bitcoin has at best 5 years left until quantum computers just destroy the cryptography they use, so they are right to look for an escape.

I just wish they realized how futile this all is.

People make it too complicated. When I want to self host something I just install the Nix package and call it a day.

When I get around to upgradingy storage, I’ll just do a very simple RAID setup on some reliable HDDs.

I’m super allergic to unnecessary complexity. I don’t want a perfect setup, I want a setup that is reliable with almost no maintenance. I’m skipping the 80% of the effort it takes to get the last 20% of the result.

That’s annoying (or at least, takes some work) to set up, and more expensive.

Out of order cameras are basically (sometimes literally) free, need no wiring work, and don’t “accidentally” record any embarrassing / private moments you then have to delete !

Hot take : almost no one actually needs security cameras in their home.

For the very few who do, visible fake cameras do 95% of the job of real cameras with none of the drawbacks.

EDIT : I’ll go even further and say an official looking sticker / plaque that says something like “this house has cameras” does at least 50% of the work already.

Of all the organs, I cannot fathom why this is the one we decided we should remove bits of. Imagine if we had instead made a ritual of removing earlobes, no one would give a fuck.

The perfect setup is a journey, not a destination. You will never be “done”, so enjoy the process.

I have been thinking of adding a license clause to everything I make (code especially) that makes any AI trained on it my sole exclusive property, but I don’t know how defensible that would be in court ?

Or any other sort of trap clause. But again, I don’t know how to word it. Like “this makes your model public domain” or “you grant a free worldwide unlimited license to every human on earth”.

Something that makes the mere inclusion of the code in a training data set into absolute legal poison to the would-be owners.

This is actually one of the absolute worst trade-offs they could have made, if you think about it for like 2 minutes :

They said 0.1% of players were on Linux.

Even if they were ALL cheaters, that’s still a tiny amount of cheaters you just “banned”

Almost 100% of whom will just cheat on Windows instead ; whereas all the legitimate Linux players will loudly complain forever.

They decided to sacrifice all the free PR from one of the most vocal groups of players out there, in order to get a ~ 0% reduction in the number of cheaters.

In more simple terms, they just shot themselves in the foot for no benefit whatsoever (though I do grant it’s a relatively small “gun”)

Besides the privacy implications : trying to protect children from grooming by forbidding specific apps, is like trying to treat chickenpox with concealer.

The real problem is that our society is even producing people who would groom a child.

But as always, politicians will try to “prevent” crime at the latest possible point in the action chain, instead of going back to the source.

I dont want to understate the fact that going to the source is extremely hard to do in many cases ; but maybe people would be less disinterested in politics, if we were actually choosing between different treatments - instead of different brands of concealer - to treat our various collective cases of chicken pox.

As someone who works in assembler a lot, RISC-V is probably my favorite.

Real glad I can soon ditch the DualSense Edge and its only half-functional gimmicks !

Yes but which index ? The headset alone is 540€, but the full VR Kit is 1080€

Dont get me wrong, I’m still going TK buy it if it costs 1080€, but I will be annoyed, and very sad for all the kids who will still have to sell their soul to Meta for a while…
