synae[he/him]@lemmy.sdf.orgto Marvel Studios@lemmy.world•Michael Douglas has officially retired from acting at the age of 80, with "no intention" of returningEnglish3·4 days agoHe absolutely deserves it, though actors are in a particular field where “no intention” can be easily changed by the right script, project, etc.
If a triple-A director said, “hey Michael I’m working in this project but I won’t make it unless you sign on for role X” he’d likely take it, since they would accommodate literally any demands or needs he has. Assuming no preventative health issues of course, although there have been plenty of actors that have done so.
And, in all likelihood, that could be an award winning role, if for no other reason than a “lifetime achievement award”.
I wish him the best, hope he can enjoy his retirement with his family.

synae[he/him]@lemmy.sdf.orgtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Some are called the great old ones for a reasonEnglish1·10 days agoIf I recall correctly, all Maiar (of which sauron is one) were created by Eru before time was countable, i.e. “in the beginning”. Once valinor and the two trees were created, time was counted by “the years of the trees” which were each approximately 10 of our years, and several thousands passed before the end of the First Age (and then of course the second and third ages happened). I assume someone did the appropriate conversion and got the number from there. It seems reasonable to me.
Plus, once you’re old enough to pour your cruelty, malice, and will to dominate all life into some jewelry, you stop counting the years, don’t you?
