There’s a very funny book called the Art of Procrastination, and his secret to deal with procrastination is to use other projects to procrastinate. That way you’re always working on a project, it may just not be the one deemed highest priority.

News@lemmy.world•The Big Money In Today's Economy Is Going To Capital Not Labour
5·2 months agoGet some stocks, be a cynical investor and at least make money. The powers that be are going to keep printing money to inflate the debt away. Lower interest rates might be in the horizon too. All these inflationary forces are unlikely to stop any time soon. Benefit from this by owning assets. Most of us are priced out of property, so stocks of high quality companies are the last place we can go to own an asset that can benefit from all this inflation.
Lastly, and this so much easier said than done, unionize. The article touches on this but the disparate wealth redistribution and inequality of today is traced back to the weakening of unions.

News@lemmy.world•Uber ordered to pay $8.5m over claim driver raped passenger
15·2 months agoFrom what I’ve found this part of the case is more about legal theory: is uber liable for criminal conduct by drivers? The jury said yes they are.
The sexual assault is still described as alleged in the articles so I think that part is still up for trial?

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Americans are paying more than ever for cars. Cheap models are disappearingEnglish
9·2 months agoNah they’ll rent out cars first, subscription-based. Cars as a service. The Netflix of cars. It just writes itself. Silicon Valley and VC money will come down from the heavens putting up a facade that their new app will change the world and help those poor people that have been priced out.
And the media will eat it up and adore and fawn over the charming CEO that says all the right things.
It’s a quote from the Shawshank redemption.

Videos@lemmy.world•[Technology Connections] Some DVD re-releases got cheapened out in a weird way [17:59]
2·5 months agoWe don’t, the assumption is that because the box sets were bought from eBay that they’re bootlegs. Also some of the dvds appear to have been written with a software associated with dvd ripping, so that’s another interesting coincidence. But not all crappy dvds he looked had that signature.
But we don’t know 100% they’re bootlegs.
