I had someone do that same thing one time when I was riding home from work (most rides I do are fitness/recreational, but I did occasionally commute via bicycle). In that case, it was right into the path of a cop going the other way, who had to brake hard to avoid a crash. Nothing came of it, but I had to laugh at the absurdity of it.
Are you sure? I’ve heard that many drivers that support public transit, support it for everyone else. They’ll still want to drive but the roads will be clear because everyone else will be on public transit!
There’s a guy in our bike club that always rides with music playing via a bluetooth speaker mounted on his handlebars.
I understand where he’s coming from - when I ride indoor, I always have music going. I’d understand playing music while riding solo outside, even though I don’t do it. I’m mostly okay with his playlist, too.
But to play music while riding with a bunch of other people? Are they not interesting enough for him? It’s hard enough to hear each other if we want to chat without music playing. And if someone calls out a safety item (car back, hole, debris, etc.) he and others near him are less likely to hear the call, so there’s a potential effect on safety as well.
Fortunately, I’ve gotten fast enough that he’s never in my ride group any more.
I was hoping the cyclist would lose his balance and fall on the hood of the car when he was rammed. Not that I want the cyclist injured, of course, but damage to the precious car? I’m all for that.
I had a road rage incident while I was out riding yesterday - I was in the middle of the lane passing some pedestrians. Note, this is a country road, and there’s no sidewalk or even shoulder. It’s a pretty popular cycling route, but it’s the first time I’ve seen people walking there (I’m not even sure where they were going). Some jackass rolled up right behind me and blew the horn, as I was next to the pedestrians. I gave the “what the hell” gesture, then after I passed the pedestrians, I moved closer to the right edge of the lane, and he swerved over to run me off the road.
Set a few PRs after that incident. lol Later, the rear derailleur cable broke, and I got rained on, so the end of the ride was less great than the rest of it (which was a pretty good ride aside from those incidents).
… I do. I can ride on this quiet country road and on the wide shoulder of the other road. But a 20 mph ebike means a 30 minute commute, and there are no showers at work.
All we can tell from satellite imagery is that it’s not on the roof.
No duh we were working hard.
You’re missing the point. The comment I replied to said that anything above 20 mph should be regulated. I was pointing out that I can apparently do that, and therefore apparently should be regulated. I actually know a number of cyclists that can do that, come to think of it.
I have no idea what point you’re trying to make. I ride my bicycle (not ebike) on the roads I was referring to all the time. But I also now need to commute to work on those roads, and those roads are not so busy with bicycles that an ebike - at practically any speed - would be a problem.
From what others have said, it sounds like that’s an extreme outlier situation, and I should just use my car.
All the arguments below, but I’m pretty sure it was a joke. He’s drinking it on the way home instead of the way to work. I laughed.
I would add, to the first 2025 entry, that Bondi said there was a list, and it was on her desk for review in February.
I kind of enjoy the times that Maga realizes they’re being lied to.
Now he is pushing for tariffs against Russia. And he finally seems to be figuring out that Putin doesn’t want to stop trying to conquer Ukraine…a point the rest of the world understood immediately…years ago.

A friend and I averaged 21.2 mph over 12 miles on our bicycles the other day, with no assist. We were just rolling along. Should we be subject to regulation?
Those mopeds are pretty expensive, and add in the insurance, tags, and such and it’s like, “Maybe I should just drive my car…and have air conditioning… And be faster…”
Edit - a lot of people don’t seem to grasp the point I was making in the first paragraph. The previous comment said something like, “Anything over 20 mph” should be regulated, and I noted that I can ride that fast on human power, and asking if I should then have to get a license or be subject to some regulation. I’m pointing out the flaw in that comment. Maybe op should have said, “anything motorized”, I don’t know.

I’m kind of looking at ebikes for my ~10 mile commute to work, which uses no bike paths. 20 mph would be okay, but faster would be nice. Part of the route is on a country road, the rest is on the shoulder of a 50 mph highway (which is pretty wide and very popular for cycling already).
I understand the bike path concern, but in my use case, there isn’t much reason to be limited to 20 mph.
I work for a bike shop, though, so I might be limited to brands they sell. :)
Maybe they were busy with actually important things?
Yeah, exactly. So great to be able to say, oh, she’s about 15 minutes away, so I’ll start making dinner. Much easier and safer than texting while driving, too.
We originally set it up so she could make sure I wasn’t laying in a ditch somewhere from a cycling crash.
