Saw a fair argument that 911 might not have happened if Florida has been settled sooner, even if it were still a bush victory.

Evidently party of the dysfunction and delay with intelligence agencies was due to a somewhat botched transition due to the uncertainty. Maybe they still would have missed it, but there’s at least a reasonable chance it would have been caught.

Further, I think while the GOP would have been follow up to Gore, there’s a good chance we would have gotten McCain, which is pretty good as far as the GOP goes. Then decent chance you might have still had Obama for, say, 2016. We almost certainly wouldn’t have seen Trump, since Obama’s delay would avoid pretty Donald from going nuts over a non white president roasting him. In a public event.

There’s just so many specific things that went wrong that credibly wouldn’t have followed a Gore victory.

  • There’s been a non trivial incidence of MAGA people getting pissed about one of their central outrage issues, one that Trump himself fanned hard, getting dismissed while Trump simultaneously insults then over the issue.

They might not be “going left” or anything, but there does seem to be his “boys” (and “gals”) getting pissed at Trump specifically.

  • On the other hand, my news feed keeps offering articles from “people” telling me how much better it is to rent and it’s a sucker"s game to own. Usually it’s based on an overstated claim of convenience, but most recently one tried to use all sorts of hand waving to assert that it is also financially better. Extra rich that the author even admits he owns a lot of property that he rents out while simultaneously trying to make it sound stupid to actually own your own house (claimed he himself rented so that he’s not “stuck” paying his own loan). I’m sure these are very sincere and smart people, why would they steer anymore wrong?

Don’t know if it’s real or my imagination, but it seems there are times when there’s extra pressure to convince people that they want to eternally rent.

  • But that’s just it, the loophole would be that he is eligible to be president, but just that he can’t be elected as such. It’s pretty dumb but the phrasing of the 22nd does use the word “elected”, clearly we all know the intent but the words may have undermined the spirit.

Either way, both the VP and the president have the same stated basic requirements, but the 22nd amendment makes no statement of the VP. While common sense suggests it’s dumb to have a person that hit the term limit as VP, it is not expressly codified.

So no matter the interpretation of the 22nd amendment, it seems like he could be VP. If you have a sane interpretation of the 22nd amendment as a hard term limit, then the succession would skip such a VP, just like it would skip a foreign born person.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if the missing end of the first clip was something like “NO SIGNAL”, as the input resets and the encoding continues.

The cut is a very reasonably explained outage with timing that is very consistent with mundane explanation, but very weird for a hypothetical murder.

If I were in charge of surveillance footage covering up a conspiracy, I’d just fake the footage instead of trying to edit out the specific evidence. Seems weird to obsess over a gap in a video that seems hardly difficult to fake instead.
