Ah I wasn’t sure so I put a decade to be safe. I thought it was released in 2006. But yeah it’s 2004/2005. I’m well aware of how old it is because I’ve owned mine long enough that it could legally drink where I’m from.

Why :( The poor thing has been surviving for more than a decade, let it live in peace.
My DS lite still turns on as if it’s 2010. I’ve had my fair share of spicy pillows in old phones, powerbanks, etc. but the DS appears immune.
The “anti-woke” men at my office once crowned me the “woke police” because I commented on one of their sexist/racist/homophobic/ whatever “jokes”. It’s my badge of honour. The weird part is that we kinda entered into some sort of cold war. I could comment on their “jokes”, pretending it was in jest as part of my job as “woke police”, while still getting the message across. I guess it kinda kept some semblance of friendliness and ability to cooperate while we still got our opinions out.
gerryflap@feddit.nlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something you wish you did/didn't do when you were a child, but wouldn't change you much even if that was the case?3·4 days agoRetain my knowledge of the (west) Frysian language. At one point I spoke it fairly well, but I can only understand it now and not speak or write it. It wouldn’t really have helped me in any way, but I guess it would’ve given me a bit more of a regional identity and it would be nice to preserve the language.

I’m o it’s not a great mindset to have, but unfortunately it’s a subconscious drive that’s hard to eliminate.
gerryflap@feddit.nlto Games@lemmy.world•Stardew Valley dethrones Valve classic Portal 2 as Steam’s top-rated gameEnglish2·7 days agoI guess it’s just a mindset difference. I’d say me and my friends are all pretty competitive gamers (as opposed to more creative gamers). We tend to play games mostly for the challenge. Also didn’t help that we had just finished our Facorio playthrough. So in our mind we still had “the factory must grow”. So our minds were like “if space -> use space”.

gerryflap@feddit.nlto Games@lemmy.world•Stardew Valley dethrones Valve classic Portal 2 as Steam’s top-rated gameEnglish14·8 days agoWhile I enjoyed it, it was also very stressful. I think we just played wrong. We covered every millimeter of the plot with farms or other useful stuff and then proceeded to be busy for more than half the day with just maintenance. At some point this meant that we never got to explore and often barely had time to go to the stores or talk to the people in the village.
Apart from overcooked it was probably the most stressful game Is ever played and it’s not supposed to be like that

I don’t get spam called enough to have a whitelist. If I expect important messages I might check a bit more often. But I rarely miss something important
gerryflap@feddit.nlto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Europeans, how far do you walk for groceries?20·9 days ago500 meters. If the store were at 3km I’d bike there, not walk. I feel like 500m is still an okay walking distance, but at some point I regularly went to a store 800m away and I already preferred to bike there. Walking 3km is definitely a bit of a time investment
gerryflap@feddit.nlto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that apart from not having a car and voting, the single greatest thing you can do for the climate is simply eating less red meat.191·9 days agoI’m not vegetarian but it baffles my mind how many people are against not eating meat. Some people seem to have made eating meat their whole personality and it’s insane to me. I don’t always eat meat and actively try to reduce it. Personally I’ve only met vegetarians who encourage this, even if I’m not willing to fully commit. I’m trying to make meat more of a luxury for myself and I think it’d be nice if most people did so. Better for the climate and better for the animals.
Maybe that’d just make the content 1.5 times longer and 1.5 times more expensive
Look, I am the type who watches lectures at 1.25x or 1.5x speed or something. But movies? It’d ruin the pacing. If you can’t bring up the attention to watch a movie then maybe you just shouldn’t
He’s absolutely a hero and without him the death star would’ve probably obliterated the rebellion (if it even existed without him). His methods aren’t exactly “good” though from the perspective of good vs evil. As we see with Mon Mothma who is maybe a bit naïve and definitely doesn’t approve of his methods. But I think a rebellion needs a Luthen. He knows he’ll be hated by pretty much everyone, but in the end he managed to get so much done. He’s the fall guy so the formal rebellion doesn’t have to get their hands dirty.

I’d rather have it stay silent. And 1-3 seconds is not really enough to have any measurable effect.
gerryflap@feddit.nlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What technology will disappear in the next 10 years?1·13 days agoBecause unlike with Disney+ I’d pay like one euro and I’m able to watch the content forever. But you’re right, it isn’t HD. Blu-ray is tho, with the same benefits
gerryflap@feddit.nlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What technology will disappear in the next 10 years?0·13 days agoIf anything I think DVDs and Blu-rays are going to rise. All across the media landscape people seem to be getting annoyed with the “own nothing” society we’re in. The thrift stores are full of thousands of DVDs for barely any cost. Last week I bought the Matrix 2 and 3 and Der Untergang in DVD for like 3 bucks. Way easier than figuring out in which streaming service to watch them and what OS and browser will let it play at HD resolution. Once “the youth” picks up on this like they did with CDs and digicams the DVD will be back.
Recently In bought a Blu-ray of Star Wars Andor because I love the series and want to support it, but Disney+ wouldn’t play beyond 480p on my setup. My trusty old PS3 plays it like a dream and the resulting image is ridiculously sharp compared to streaming.
CDs, cassettes, and vinyl are already booming or in the rise again. And the streaming audio landscape is arguably way nicer than the streaming video lanschape. In photography there’s also a wave of film and early digital camera hype.
I hope that the next 10 years brings the resurgence of the physical medium and ownership. And if not that, the resurgence of the high seas.
After watching Andor, I guess Luthem Rael fits that title. Dude’s absolutely savage. Forced to use the tools of his enemy to fight for freedom that he’ll likely never experience. He sacrifices good people on order to protect the whole
Vex and Blaze are pretty cool names tbh
