Strangely enough I only knew Morgan Eckroth for her Tik Toks, I never discovered her YouTube channel, I’m very curious to dive into that
I think that often the flavours they note on the box may look specific but actually can be perceived in a very subjective way, so if they write “chocolate” chances are I don’t truly know what to expect because chocolate flavour has a lot of nuances and I don’t know which one the vendor is referring to

I have so many questions
Today I discovered that the Hario V60 match perfectly the hole of the Hario kettle, so I could take huge advantage of the heat rising from the kettle while it was in the stove. I also put a espresso plate over it to trap the heat but I guess that’s unnecessary
I usually pour some boiling water just enough to rinse the paper but I guess I’ve was under-heating the thing for all this time? How hot is it supposed to get?

Coffee@lemmy.world•Everything I Learned About Cold Brew Coffee | James Hoffmann
2·4 months agoThat seems interesting I should try that I noticed that the filtering speed depends heavily on the type of coffee, for example I prepared cold brew with a decaf coffee which always took much more time to filter. Maybe it produced more fine ground but I don’t know for sure

Coffee@lemmy.world•Everything I Learned About Cold Brew Coffee | James Hoffmann
2·4 months agoThe only thing I didn’t get: after making the ground precipitate to the bottom naturally, one could just filter it in a V60 without any issue. Normally I make cold brew with coarse ground coffee. Then I separate it in two steps, firstly pouring water in a caraffe leaving most of the grounds behind and then filtering the much cleaner liquid in the V60, which then takes much less time (but yeah more than filtering hot coffee) With his method the liquid poured is even cleaner even without additives, so I guess they’re not necessary at all

Coffee@lemmy.world•Finally brought my Aeropress Go to work, and it IS worth it
1·6 months agoI’ve tested it for a while. My thought is that Aeropress really saves you in situations where actually you can’t have precise measurements and fancy equipments, that is an office where you can’t weight things and you have to measure quantities very roughly by eye
In this kind of situation I really can’t see how the reversed method improves the process. Everything is so simple and approximate that loosing some drops of water on the bottom really doesn’t change much.
Also, just using a 2 filters and creating a vacuum I guess is enough to cancel even that issue

7·7 months agoJudge reverses herself, allowing Northville to close downtown streets this summer after all
That’s good news, however it’s not like other opposing businesses owner doesn’t have a point
Specialty retail stores in the city’s downtown area seem to be doing OK, she noted. Those like hers, who sell clothing or other goods that can be found in many other locations, are not.
“Nobody asked us if we wanted closures,” Kauffman said. “Nobody came and talked to our business about what it would mean for us. Nobody’s supplementing my rent to make up for the losses that I have because I’m paying rent based on 30,000 to 60,000 cars a day. That’s the part that upsets me the most.”
I mean, I live in Europe but specifically in Italy, not exactly the ruling country in the field of walkable and carless road systems, so I get that people living in USA are extremely disadvantaged in this sense, but exactly because I live in Italy I also understand what it means when an authority makes chances that are good on paper but very badly executed in reality, that’s why I honestly can’t blame completely the people who disagreed with the closure
However I really hope they will be able to keep the neighbourhoods closed and safe in the end, but complaints needs to be listened and the people struggles acknowledged

Coffee@lemmy.world•Where do you get your beans? A coffee shops thread
1·7 months agoThat seems so nice, with even two decaf options I’m too a lover of fruity flavours especially with a good acidity, so I’m glad you’ve found one

Internet isn’t real life tho. Slurs can be used in an inoffensive way but you only can do it in the right context. You couldn’t do that at the post office, in a work meeting, with strangers on the street, you surely couldn’t to that on a public thread on the internet
