3·4 days agoThanks! Yeah, it’s really hard to convey the feeling you get surrounded by these absolutely massive trees. That coastline around Crescent city is so pretty; it’s great all around the CA/OR area but the Castle Island stuff is just so great.

5·4 days agoMost of this run of Redwood photos are going to be shot on an Ultra-wide lens (Rokinon 14mm 2.4f) I got for myself as a birthday present at the turn of the year. That’s how I’m able to get so much of the tree at once, but also causes some stretching of what’s in the photo. So in person, the trees are a little fatter and a little shorter, but still crazy tall.

1·4 days agoYeah, everything I post is done by me, and more or less every day. Although sometimes its more that I’ll do two or three shorter ones in a day and then there are times where I’ll have a few days off for whatever reason.

3·5 days agoSince I won’t be able to do as much hiking for the wintertime, from here on out I’ll be jumping back in time for my daily hikes. Likely will start with hikes from earlier this year (Redwoods mainly), and once I get through that I’ll go chronologically through last years hikes, mostly Southwest US.

2·7 days agoYeah, I knew it was possible with no haze, but I did not expect it to be that good. Once the sun got a little higher though it turned into a blob and then disappeared completely by around 9am.

1·7 days agoHell yeah, that looks awesome! That’s the one downside to being there in the fall was the lower water. Thanks!

3·10 days agoIt should be right around peak for colors now I’d think, so have fun if you go!.. Ah, right on, the way they had a high water trail I thought it might typically be wider.

2·10 days agoVirginia (US); I’ll start spelling out the states as opposed to the shorthand we use here. Hadn’t really thought of it prior to this.

2·26 days agoHere’s a couple of shots of those, I’ve also got a couple on the previous days post with them. This one is kinda weird because I’m breaking it into 3 posts (Maryland Heights/overlook, Harpers Ferry Town, and then today’s John Brown Museum; plus the protest post from two weeks ago) and I try to only do 4-5 photos per post so it’s not overwhelming. For the town post I just wanted a few of the historic buildings. The flickr album also has more of everything, although for the Harpers Ferry stuff and upcoming John Brown stuff, it’s basically just all of the sign posts I saw in case they keep removing things.

I believe the closed trail is coming back from the overlook section, which I also did as part of the loop (but many were doing without going all the way up first). Or at least there was a trail that looked like a shortcut that was partially blocked by limbs. I almost took it as well, sounds like a good thing I didn’t!

2·28 days agoGreat shot! That one was on my list of to-do’s while there, but unfortunately the majority of the time I was there everything was fully socked in a cloud and you couldn’t see more than five feet away. Came back through after going up to Harpers Ferry to do the Old Rag trail, but then I again got socked in by the clouds.

You should absolutely get there sometime if you can, there is such a great mix of wildly different sights. There is some truly epic coastline around there. If you go and have a little extra time, heading north into Oregon has some really great coast as well and a lot of the views going that way are as you rise up above the cliffs along 101.
