Spiders: usually harmless, often quite helpful. But has too many legs and a general creepy-crawly vibe. Save those for centipedes etc.

Bears: best avoided, dangerous even without meaning to be. Fluffy as heck with those stupid cute little ears. Shoulda put them on something that I can hug without probably being mauled, maybe a really big dog breed.

The singular “they” isn’t even the first time English has specifically appropriated a plural pronoun for the singular for the sake of social respect!!!

We don’t even use the second person singular “thou” anymore, we just use “you” for both of them!
