blackbrook@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are there any wrap around sunglasses that don't make me look like a conservative dad?2·3 days agoYou are so right, I forgot about the mustache. But its got to be something like a horseshoe or a really big handlebar. Muttonchops might work too.
It’s a fake photograph. It’s actually a woodcut cleverly done to mimic one. It’s quite good, you can hardly make out the crosshatching.
What it depicts is real though.

I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.

blackbrook@mander.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•this 82 year old woman dressing like she was 40 or younger makes me think about how ridiculous I'll look like when and if I reach that age. Am I misguided?5·6 days agoPutting in the effort to dress in the way one has come to think is appropriate for appearing in public is a form of self-care. For some people, from certain generations or cultures or who have adopted the habit to their identity, that may be more formal or elaborate than for others.
That a person of an advanced age, possibly suffering some mental decline still does this is a great thing, and very good for their well-being.
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you have a "catchphrase"? if so, what is it?6·6 days agoNot mine, but I knew a guy in high school who did this and I think it’s ripe for someone to steal. He would frequently add “like the dickens!” to things, the less appropriate, the better. .

[serious]3·7 days agoI play some music (thru earbuds unless my wife happens to be away). My go to is the Goldberg Variations. I think the reason it works, even though it can be quite busy and fast in some parts is that there is enough complexity to occupy the mind, but enough sameness to lull, and I know it really well.
Sometimes I’ll take 1mg of melatonin, and a cup of warm milk with honey.
When your brain explodes out your other ear, you don’t want to be getting any in your eyes. Also, its not a plug, it just ties them to the table so you don’t steal them.
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you know a music player from fdroid that does this?4·7 days agoI don’t have an answer, but FWIW, here’s ideas for expanding your search in case exactly such a thing doesn’t exist:
video players can sometimes handle audio too, maybe a video player has this function
players that have command line interfaces sometimes have timestamp parameters (i think such players exist on Linux, don’t know about Android)
Scientists have been known to be materialist.

the walk is good for your though. You can feel like a badass for doing it, but complaining kind of weakens that.
Damn, those noods are practically naked! Come to think of it, it’s that they are not quite naked that makes them so hot.
