Casual UK@feddit.uk•Has anyone else had this flu?English
7·1 day agoDon’t know if this is any consolation, but the variant going around this season wasn’t the one expected when the vaccines were manufactured. It still seems to lessen the severity a bit, but the vaccine wasn’t made for this H3N2 strain. But yeah, always get the jab.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•"Flushable wipes"; "dishwasher-safe"; "odourless" - What are some other blatant lies that companies get away with?
1001·1 day ago- “Up to…” when used to describe things like internet speeds
- “Wholesome” when used to describe food. Not really a lie, per se, but “wholesome” has absolutely no meaning when it comes to nutrition and just sounds good
- “Zero calories” or 0 grams of [blank] in the nutrition information. The regulations let them round down if it’s less than 1
gramstandard unit of measurement for that item (edited from grams). - Any time you see “free” there’s always at least an implied asterisk

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Name a better way to control your music remotely. I dare you. (This is really how I play my music when I'm in my workshop 😆)
1·1 day agoDunno how I missed this, but I referenced this post as a reply to another and am just now seeing it.
The box I ssh into is headless, and AFAIK, use of
/media/{user}/{mountpoint}is just a desktop environment convention. When I plug in any kind of removable media to this box, I manually mount it under/mnt. I mount my NAS’s media share to/mediamostly for convenience since that’s the main purpose of this box in my workshop.

Dogs@lemmy.world•Do your dogs wear their collars indoors?English
5·6 days agoYeah, both of mine get all excited and start hopping up and down if I go anywhere near the coat rack where I hang their collars up when we come in lol.
Best thing I did was train my dogs to sit before I’ll open the door. Youngest one (a Russell terrier mix) used to bolt out (thankfully the yard is fenced).
Probably also helps that we have a “going outside” routine too. They don’t wear their collars inside so before we go out, they have to sit while I put their collars on them.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Cheapflation: The Kroger brand "shake and bake" seasoning no longer comes with the bag to shake it in 😠English
2·7 days agoMy air fryer never leaves the counter, but it’s also a toaster oven and grill. I can easily cook for the two of us with that and haven’t baked anything in the big oven in months.
The grill plate works great but it’s a PITA to clean up after grilling something that splatters a lot, so I don’t use that much.

2·7 days agoHaven’t had those in forever but you could probably pop them in the air fryer or even the toaster oven for half that time.
The last time I recall eating a Hot Pocket was in like 2014 during a week-long power outage. Was using a propane heater to not freeze to death and put the hot pockets over top of that on a wire rack. They came out surprisingly good 😆

4·8 days agoThe actual seasoning crumbs are still sealed in a bag (for now? lol). It just doesn’t come with the “shake” bags you pour that into in order to coat the food.

1·8 days agoHonestly not sure. I’d have to splurge on the name brand to compare.

memes@lemmy.world•I wanna go back to the 90s before people shouting endless streams of opinions into microphones was glamorized
4·14 days agoOh, boy, that brings back memories of being a teenager in the early 90s. Grandpa gifted me his old CB, got it setup and tuned in, and immediately turned it off.
It’s just that back then, those people weren’t glamorized with fancy titles like “podcaster” or “influencer”. They were just garden variety cranks everyone knew to just ignore.

And given all that’s happened between the original run of KoTH and the present, I found Dale a lot less charming in the reboot.

174·14 days agoI’m not saying the concept didn’t exist then. There was just a higher barrier to entry than buying a microphone.

Oh, yeah. I totally forgot about serving size chicanery.
