  • My sleep is boooorked lately but I’m strangely okay with it. Maybe because it’s summer where I am.

Also I’ve been getting super into my modded 3DS lately to the point I’ve put down my switch, mostly for being able to make it do things like stream Portal 2 via Moonlight lol. (I’m always thinking “can it run DOOM?” But for Moonlight/Sunshine streaming, I may one day try it on the dryer). I also want to figure out Tailscale better so I can stream when I’m outside the house. I think it miiiight tie in to my Linux obsession, maybe. FOSS all day every day 😎

As always thanks for making an infodump-friendly space! It’s nice to have an outlet with like-minded folks.

  • Are you okay, friend?

The thing about Lemmy is there are different instances/(websites), each with different rules. I think there’s an ask community on .world as well if you’re not comfortable with this one.

All websites open to the clearnet are potentially vulnerable to DDoS and other attacks, that’s just part of being on the network and cybersecurity is a thing for a reason. Likewise you can get a sunburn or rained on when you go outside, which is why we have sunscreen and umbrellas.

I’ve been dealing with stress from living in this seemingly uncaring, all-seeing world too, if it helps you feel less alone. Best we can do is be there for each other as humans when we can in the meantime.

  • TL:DR; do what works for you and don’t judge others for their connection choices, either.

For about the last ~6mos Lemmy has been my only social media, and for about 2 years before that it was Reddit. I didn’t get off Facebook and Instagram to feel superior, I did it because my mental health was spiraling downward like a bent Slinky on old stairs. I was chronically online since my early teens, so it wasn’t an easy pull either.

I don’t judge my loved ones for still being on those sites because it works for them, and I get my pop culture from them so it’s a win-win for us.

I’m still an online weirdo since I’m here on Lemmy, and I still fill the rest of my screen time with tech projects and video games. I’m no better than my peers, just different hobbies on occasion.

Finding your balance takes time, and it won’t always look the same depending on where you are in life. That’s okay! We’re messy, complicated things and trying to be “perfect” only adds stress.

Don’t be afraid to experiment in the meantime to find what feels “right” for you in your gut and mental well-being. You got this 🌼

  • Come back at it in a different mood, time, setting, etc. and run it against multiple people who you know won’t just coddle you about it if you’re really concerned.

Part of human psychology is coping with the world around us, not just learning about it. Our individual natures, moods and pasts will always color our experiences and that’s not necessarily a bad thing; the sooner you accept it’s okay to be human, the more authentically you can work with the quirks that come with it.

I do know personally I can be prone to overthinking and getting fuzzier in my logic when I’m tired, hungry, or overwhelmed. I also know it’s fixable.

On the flip side, I also have a history of trusting/getting anxious about bigger picture things based on precedent rather than imagined ideas (new things don’t bother me, but having to face certain known patterns stresses me to a very bad point).

I factor both of these things in when I get to an almost-crisis point. But at the end of the day, the human perspective is like a prism in water: multifaceted, fluid, and dependent on environment but also sometimes beautiful. :)
