Anecdotal, but pretty much all my friends use ChatGPT. So there is definitely some demand, but I doubt any of them would pay for it. They also all realize more and more that it’s a bullshit machine that cannot be trusted.

In Germany, many old people are forced to collect bottles and get food from food banks because they cannot survive on what they get from the state. Lowering or stagnating that payment is impossible. Like most things it is just a wealth distribution issue imo

I would be surprised if you’d argue that more devs can write Rust than Python.

Web servers spent most of their time with IO, because the real work is mostly done by the DB. That’s why especially Node is very fast and influential design wise. But PHP, Ruby and Python are all very popular and valid choices for web servers. In the end, if you need real performance you have to scale horizontally anyways. And the small gains you make in a compiled language matter even less.

Notice how the OP specifically said well-known and widely used. Yes Rust is currently cool, but way way more people can actually work productively with Python.

I disagree. You are right that through federation and open source you can create your instance if another instance is a nazi bar. But now you open your new bar. Should you buy chairs from the nazis for your bar? Is it not a problem if the nazis are the only ones producing chairs?
