Honestly the biggest takeaway for me is that apparently, they talk like this in private as well. In other words, they do seem to actually believe what they say. Or at least believe that they have to keep up appearances to each other.
Up until I read this I thought they were just evil. But no, they are actually morons who really believe that the US protects Europe out of the goodness of its heart.
They don’t “protect Europe” they just protect their own economic interests, that happen to coincide with European ones
