Basically what the title says. I am from Denmark, know very little about baseball except the basic rules and that the Rockies are awesome.

In Denmark nobody cares about baseball, so I am looking for someone to talk too. Will you talk with me?

Thanks man! For some reason the show won’t load. But ootp was on sale on steam so bought it right away :p

And your right about the Rockies. The year I started following their games the got the worst win-loose ratio in the season (or maybe it was the second year). But they Blackmon was the best - maybe not as a player, but he was so cool.

I would love for us to get a conversation going. Lemmy has a lot of potential but it seems like most instances that aren’t about US politics or programming are ghost towns.

As a Guardians fan, I can relate to your team’s desperate need for pitching — that’s how it felt for us going into 2025. I would love to see them make a few inexpensive, surgical changes to be more competitive rather than wasting their time going after one big name who will probably never settle for Rockies money anyway.

I haven’t looked into the organization much; do you guys have anybody in the minors with promise?

Yeah I agree. I guess you can put gaming onto that list, but most everything else basically is dead. Which is a shame.

And honestly I know nothing about the MiLB, so I don’t know if there is anything up and coming. But when a team starts consistently ending up on the bottom of the league (in any sport basically), it is my experience it takes more than just a single or few good players to change that. Something more fundamental needs to change in the organisation.

I’d love to talk baseball with you! I’m a Red Sox fan myself.

The Rockies have so much potential it’s so sad to see them be bad! I mean the altitude at Coors could make them soooooooo fun to watch and the purple uniforms chefs kiss.

What got you into baseball? Have you been to a game at Coors?

      Awesome!

Red Sox, that is Boston, right ? Sorry for the obvious question, that I could just google, but I am trying to teach myself all the teams and just looking them up isn’t very helpful in that regard :p

And I have no idea what is in the head of the management of the Rockies. But no I haven’t been to Coors unfortunately, it looks like a prime venue, and I would love to go. But it is a bit far from Denmark right now :/ also agree with the purple uniforms.

For what got me into baseball it was a trip to Cuba. We were living at an air bnb kinda thing and the oldest boy were constantly watching baseball and I started joining him. There is just something about the relaxing pace of the game combined with the smack and excitement of a hit/run/home run.

So I got home and was looking into the teams and had no idea, so I just settled on the Rockies because I imagine that’s who Randy Marsh would root for :p and the uniforms of course ;)

So how did the Red Sox do this season ?

Yup! Tho they are a little bit the New England Red Sox in spirit (it just doesn’t flow as well lol)

Haha yeah that might be a bit of a trip lol! Perhaps one day :)

Interesting!! That seems to really capture the community element of baseball. Hanging out with friends, hoping that your guy will have a big moment.

Kinda reminds me of picking march madness brackets by their mascot lol

Being a Sox fan is always a trip lol. We have some VERY exciting prospects (Roman Anthony being the one you are most likely to have heard of) that got to come up a bit last season. We also had Aroldis Chapman (stole him from the Yankees. Fuck the yankees!) who actually defected from Cuba interestingly enough and had one of the most amazing seasons of relief baseball ever. (103 mph or 165.8 kmph fastball at age 35) https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/aroldis-chapman-547973?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

Then we feel apart in the very beginning of the postseason so…… maybe next year lol!

          Perhaps one day

It would be really great. But me going to Denver is even smaller than just going to the US. Best chance would probably seeing them in New York, Miami or LA, if they happen to play there.

And yeah, actually just discovered that a friend of mine used to follow MLB 20 years ago as a kid. So we have decided to start a “league”, pick some teams and the one with the best win-lose ratio buys the other a beer and a hot dog.

picking march madness brackets by their mascot lol

Well, haha, I don’t really have any geographical affiliation with anywhere in the US and had no idea about game philosophy, history or anything getting into it. So had a really hard time choosing and it came down to really superficial elements in the end.

The flip side then is that I don’t have any allegiances and can basically root for several teams :p except the Yankees, I agree.

And no, I don’t know anyone by name yet. I have very little exposure and I am terrible at names already. But seem to remember Anthony’s jawline lol.

What do you do now that it is off season ? Just wait until next season start or do you nerd into trades and transfers and stuff ?

It doesn’t happen very often and it’s usually bigger name teams than the Rockies, but MLB has been playing games in London the last few years which may be more feasible that coming all the way to the states. It doesn’t look like they are playing one in 2026 but maybe 2027.

So we have decided to start a “league”

Wait that is such a wonderful idea!!! Best of luck to you and your teams lol!

            except the Yankees, I agree

            Hell yeah!!!

But seem to remember Anthony’s jawline

Well that’s what actually matters so you’re good ;p

I very lightly follow trades and stuff but mostly just wait until next season. If there’s someone very exciting (à la Yamamoto last year or the Sox are competing to resign Bregman this year) I’ll pay closer attention. What about you? Any interesting Rockies rumors lol?

Yes, there is this rumour that they want to try and hit a ball haha … other than that nah. Also I have a hard time believing anyone interesting will want to join them - unless the contract is unrealistically good of course. Give me a couple of seasons then I will have opinions on what I think they should do about it :p

Going to London would be far more doable. Honestly I would go see any game, if they came to London in ‘27.

Tell me, why do you enjoy baseball ? I feel like it’s a very niche sport these days - between NFL, NHL and the NBA. Or even - pardon me while i puke for calling football for - soccer.

HA! Good luck with that one lol

Trade rumors in my experience are mostly ‘some random dude with the barest of connections to the team said this would be neat’ so that’s very reasonable.

It’s definitely not as popular as it used to be. lol here is a mostly satirical video that I 100% believe on the matter: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=siiFqzUfraM

My family is one of those baseball families ya know? Dad played in college, my brother almost went pro except he had to get a second Tommy John surgery, and I played lots of softball. I was actually raised a Mets fan and honestly found no interest in professional baseball given how much baseball I was cough cough forcibly cough cough watching. But then I moved to Boston and fell in love with the Sox, Fenway, and the fans. Everyone is a little bananas about it here. I never really got into the other sports bc one sport is enough for me lol but also I already knew the ins and outs of baseball so it was easy to get into it.

pardon me while I puke for calling football — soccer

Hahahahahaha I appreciate you translating for me :p

Do you follow any other sports?

That was a very interesting video, thanks for sharing! While I agree with his analysis of gains of HD and widescreen, I am not so sure I see a direct correlation. I do totally agree on, that the vertical aspect ratio is great for baseball.

Kinda reminds of that old Simpsons episode, where Bart brings a portable radio to church to listen to baseball. Could totally see a kid keeping track of an inning on his/her phone during church :p

So a former Mets fan you say ? Is that where the hate for the Yankees come from ? Or is that a Red Sox thing ? Personally I don’t like them because they seem so smug and feel (and say) they are the best.

I mostly follow pro cycling. Road races like Tour de France, the Giro and the such. Follow up on some of the spring one day classics as well, if they are broadcasted. Cycling is still recovering from the doping era. I guess that could be they case for baseball as well ?
