I’m currently looking for glass food storage containers (freezer safe, oven safe as a bonus).
My search so far has only turned up Pyrex Europe, which is an American company but produces exclusively in France.
Other brands I’ve checked:
- Orthex: imports their glassware from abroad, and does not produce it in Sweden/Finland (confirmed via email, still waiting on the actual country) Edit: confirmed made in China by their support.
- Glasslock: offices and warehouses in Germany, production in South Korea
- Luminarc: French company, produced in UAE
- Duralex: French company, made in France. Does not deliver outside of France (EU website is “under construction”). I reached out about the broken website.
- IKEA 365: Swedish company, glass made in different countries (confirmed France, Czech Republic). Lids made in China.
- Weck: German company, probably made in Germany. Not ideal shapes, and while theoretically freezer proof, not meant for that.
- Frigoverre by Bormilio Luigi: comment said produced in Europe and China, their own website does not show a production site outside of Europe. No direct sales from their website, no local retailer for me.
- vilde.pl seems to produce in Poland, but not what I am looking for
- Kuhn Rikon produces in Switzerland, but no delivery for me
- Status Innovation seems to produce in Slovenia
So I’d appreciate any tips and I will update the list with what I find.
Edit: Seems like Duralex fits the criteria but does not deliver outside of France. Please keep additional suggestions coming!
Current top list:
- Duralex if the EU website would work
- Frigoverre if there would be direct sales or a local retailer
- Kuhn Rikon if they would deliver to me
- Status Innovation seems to produce in Slovenia
- IKEA 365 despite the Chinese lid
- Weck, because the shape is just not practical for me and they do go beyond 500 ml.
- Pyrex Europe, made in France, but US company.
I’d recommend weck. According to Wikipedia they still produce in Germany. https://www.weck.de/
Here they describe that you can also freeze the glasses. https://www.weckglaeser.com/ideen-rezepte/kuechen-tipps/einfrieren.htm
You must not seal them airtight if you freeze them .
Thanks, how could I forget Weck? Unfortunately the shape is not super convenient, but I’ll keep them in mind.
But they have glas lids and replacement seals will still be available in decades, so these are bifl
They do have flat ones https://www.shop-weck.de/p/gourmet-glas-450-ml-mit-glasdeckel-6-st
