I get it works in the context of the plot, the characterization just didnt work for me. When I say he’s underpowered, what I mean is I wish there were more moments where he’s SUPERMAN and not just a super guy. There weren’t many of those WOW moments, to me, where you and all the other characters are just astounded by his raw power. He struggles through the whole movie and that’s just not the version of Superman I like, I guess.
The JLU animated series version is more how I see Superman so that’s kinda the model I judge the live action movies against
I get it, I’m a big fan of Superman the Animated Series and the whole Timm era too. But I’m more partial to a more human Superman, the new animated My Adventures with Superman and this new movie encapsulate that perfectly for me.
Eh, I still think he was pretty damn impressive. I mean he literally lifted an entire Kaiju and a skyscraper and taking on the Planet Watch contingent like a hot knife through butter.
But yeah, everyone has their favorite version of Supes, some people like Dean Cain, other like Tyler from Superman and Lois. Personally there’s something to like from every iteration for me, but I’m a HUGE Superman fan myself.
You just found the words for me, thanks! I’ve had trouble explaining to people why I didn’t love the most recent movie. I guess I prefer God-Superman rather than human Superman. I’m glad you liked this rendition though – here’s hoping Supergirl is good too!
Yeah, it is fun to watch god-tier Superman with a more aloof, pragmatic outlook, although it’s that alien pragmatic outlook that makes it hard for me to enjoy that iteration as much.
