Pontypoole is a superb indie horror movie set in a small town community radio station during a zombie outbreak. I hate most zombie movies, and I love that movie. One of the most unique takes on the genre I’ve ever seen.

In terms of more well known Canadian directors, David Cronenberg and Denis Villeneuve are both absolute masters. A significant chunk of Cronenberg’s ouvre is made by Canadian studios, as is all of Villeneuve’s work before Prisoners. I recommend giving Enemy a look, it’s brilliantly weird.

I take every excuse I can get to bring up Machotaildrop. I love this moving so fucking much, you don’t even know. Good vibes.

Like Wonka meets skateboarding, but Canadian.

I enjoyed both Bon Cop/Bad Cop and its sequel. First one is about a Quebec and Ontario cop working a murder over a state line, second one involves the US a bit. And Menteur (you can find it as Compulsive Liar if searching in English), where a guy who lies constantly wakes up one morning and everything he’s lied about is true. It’s got a sequel with one of the characters that comes out this week, I think.

I found the plot of both movies rather trite, but the characters (and actors) were superb!

So many I don’t know where to start, the National film board of Canada has plenty of animated short films and documentaries that are completely free! https://www.nfb.ca/ . I really enjoy Madame Tutli-Putli, really great stop motion animation. CBC gem also has some great picks as well.
