Unrelated: GIMP has a simple straightforward outline option on the text tool now?!
EDIT: It seems to have been added in 3.0. I am surprised I am only now finding this
Making pro-quality text got easier, too. Style your text, apply outlines, shadows, bevels, and more, and you can still edit your text, change font and size, and even tweak the style settings.
Holy shit! What version of Gimp? This has been the single biggest annoyance of mine since moving to Gimp.
I just updated to 3.0.4 and it’s there! WOOO!
YOOOOOO! That’s freaking awesome. I never even checked if gimp 3.0 has outlines for text since i’ve used it so long without. Guess i’m gonna have to meme today c
That’ll make life so much easier! Instead of doing text, alpha to selection, grow selection by 2, add new layer, color fill, move behind text layer, merge
I always used a third party script for it, so for me it was 1click already.
What I’m saying is, if you’re annoyed by something, might be worth checking out add-ons to Gimp
My technique was to add a drop shadow like what I described here, which works great and takes only a few keystrokes, but this way seems much smarter.
EDIT: This new outline functionality does seem to be limited to just the text tool, so I will keep using this drop shadow technique when I need to outline some other arbitrary non-text layer. It is more nondestructive than the select/grow/stroke/merge technique, taking advantage of the fact that filters are nondestructive now.
I used to use drop shadow but often couldn’t get a good result depending on the background. So I’d just stick with white text and black outlines because I’m basic AF 🤣
ROCK AND STONE!
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE???
Never seen a DRG/Star Trek crossover meme.
Amazing!
