    Rice, lentils and beans.

Affordable, store forever, can cook em in a thousand ways. I think half of the calories I eat come from those 3.

Get offline. Don’t always bring your phone everywhere you go. Turn it off a few hours a day.

Put it on DND as much as possible.

Same goes for any other digital device ofc.

If you get bored, find a solution, offline. Talk to friends or family for advice, take a walk, join a club.

We don’t need the digital world at all. We’re all just a bit addicted to it.

I’m so glad my friends and I all turn on DND mode on tuesday evening. After years of doing so, it has become a holy evening, were no other shit is planned on by any of us.

This is a way of life for people with attention deficit. When I put my keys down in an unfamiliar place I get anxiety because I know my future self is potentially going to waste hours looking for them.

This is why I get so frustrated when my wife “cleans up” behind me. It has taken literally decades to develop coping strategies for this kind of stuff, and a big part of that is a visual inventory of tasks. The screwdriver on my desk reminds me I need to finish fixing the fan. The bank statement reminds me I need to send in the property taxes. The zip ties remind me I need to trellis the tomatoes. I know it looks like clutter, but it’s actually a super important part of my organization.

There is something fascinating about using visual cues as a means of self organisation. We think of it as completely normal but other people see chaos. These coping strategies independently arise in ADHD people. Until very recently I just assumed everyone did this and it has been super interesting to learn that a lot of my behaviours and habits are workarounds. You make the best hand with the cards you have been dealt. That said I do get upset if someone moves my keys. Who knows it may have even been me because I can’t remember but the important thing is to be compassionate with ourselves and others.

Go for a walk. Its cliché and I hate that it works but it genuinely can lift your mood and outlook. Plus you burn more calories than you might think.

I used to think walking my dog was for his benefit.

Then he got surgery, and we can’t take our walks anymore. I noticed I miss them more than him.

So now we go on bicycle rides together :)

Learning about your wants and needs and how to communicate them.

I got recently Diagnosed with autism and before that always struggled with the demands of others and how to Tell others that I dont want to / can Not do something. Now I know that it is totally socially acceptable to just Tell others to suck your left nut and if the have any questions about that, Tell them youre autistic and cant be arsed.

Slowly taking a full breath in and out using your nose.

Also more sleep makes you less tired.

But just because you are given the ancient wisdom does not mean you can master it, i am always tired and often forget to a breath.

Know yourself. Not your hobbies, your habits, or your job. Your worldview. Understand its biases, its flaws and who may be hurt by it. Craft it with meaningful ideas that recognize the inherent value in the gift of life. Create rituals with those you love that celebrate and express gratitude for this shared existence.

If you have lost heart in the path of Love, flee to Me without delay: I am a fortress invincible. Rumi

Divorcing your identity from your job. You aren’t a teacher etc, you are someone who teaches (for $). Makes decision making within and outside work simpler
