“Our hands are like the hands of the living.”

    Phew. Strong line.

How do you find the poetry you post? I enjoy so many of the things I see from you, I need to connect with the same periodicals or events you do.

The Poetry Foundation is a great resource: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/

Poets.org is another one. They have a poem of the day newsletter I like.

The Guardian has a great poetry section. https://www.theguardian.com/books/poetry

I don’t find social media all that great for poetry that suits what I want to post, even dedicated poetry pages, Tumblr is ok, and Bluesky has a nice one called Forgotten Poets. Also, one of the only good things left on Facebook is the author Jonathan Carroll’s page, where he posts quotes, images, poems, music, etc, and his own writing, and he has amazing taste. Fantastic writer too, really unique novels.

But mostly what I do is check or buy books of poetry and read them one by one, page by page. The Best American Poetry anthologies is a really great way to start, your library probably has many, as they’re sort of the best annual poems from all the various literary journals hand picked by editors. I’m just often slogging through book after book though, good thing I’ve always been a fast reader, I usually read 7-10 books a week anyway.

I am glad you like what I post. Sometimes I don’t think what I post is diverse enough, but I find it hard to pick those poems because I don’t know what life is like for an immigrant or black or queer person, etc, so I feel awkward about it. I also try to rein myself in from posting too much Rupi Kaur style poetry, although I like it, because it gets a little too Hallmark moment sometimes. I think those are my chief poetry picking faults.
