It’s for events with security checks so they don’t have to rummage through your bag

As others mentioned it’s for security. I’ve gone to actual football games and it’s a requirement. I think they even allow outside food. I don’t think they allowed bottles though because they can be hucked at people or the field. Never tried it, I do know they keep the caps for that reason.
