  • There is a common argument from the right that goes “nazis were left because the socialism in national socialism means they are left”. I think you are being interpreted as arguing in this way because you said “socialism means left though” on a comment saying the nazis used that label to obscure their rightwing politics. Socialism is leftwing, but not in the the context of national socialism, that “socialism” plays the same role as the “democratic” in the democratic peoples republic of korea.

  • The honesty of Nazis is a peculiar thing. In Sweden, the far-right party that the government collaborates with, who were started by literal ex-SS nazis and neo-nazis, have celebrated other ex-SS nazis, have worn swaztikas and so on. They have this “sociologist” guy whose argument for this party not being nazis anymore is basically “Look at Golden Dawn and other nazi organizations, they are open about them being nazis. Nazis are honest about being nazis. That is why the Sweden Democrats cannot be nazis, because if they were, they’d be open about it”.

  • Are you looking to learn linux more or have a easy living experience, or what is the goal? If you want to get to know linux, learn how to compile a kernel, make your own initramfs and such, then: absolutely! If you want a stable easily maintainable system, then… maybe not. Like it is possible, and Gentoo is very stable, but if you are just starting, then you may make choices that do break when you upgrade. With some experience, this will go away, but expect some downtime in the beginning.

  • Someone else was explaining how to tell left from right handed. Buy why is it important? If you do math and physics, you almost certainly would use a right hand system. That means all formulas are derived with that in mind. If you try to use them in the left handed system, you are going to have a horrible time trying to figure out which of all terms need to have their sign flipped.

  • I moved from academia into working with linux. I did some selfhosting before and was well versed in linux. Look for sysadmin or devops roles – I did not know what devops was before I started this. Look for companies that are in process of moving to linux or recently has, they may be looking for increased workforce to handle to move or are in the process of replacing consultants with more permanent staff. Look for companies which have development in C, C++, maybe also rust? Chances are their software ay be running on linux in one way or another, and may need a devops and/or sysadmin. Some banks, companies doing embedded systems, industrial tools and machinery, are examples which fit here that I know of. Might not be the most interesting companies, but the work could be ok.

If you are looking to get a foot in in some open source project, then it is a bit different. I have almost happened to slide into some projects. Use a product, get to know it, read the issues. Maybe closed issues just to find a solved one and try to figure out why that solved it. Start solving open issues. If you think you have something to contribute when a project asks for input, leave a comment. See what sticks. Some projects may take years to get back to you and your contributions, others may ask you to review something after a few weeks if it clicks. That is my feeling at least, but I just have sporadic contributions, more well established folks may have more insight.
