gAlienLifeform@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Public broadcasters say GOP funding cuts could be 'devastating' to local media and make Americans less safe7·1 day agoThere are stations in Alaska that got over half their budget from the corporation for public broadcasting that are the only way to get tsunami alerts to a lot of people living on islands up there. If they go dark and nobody dies it will only be through incredible luck.
Yeah, like Andrea Manafort said, they just keep showing up and eating the lobster

And not even bad stuff: he is just actively investigating all of Trump’s perceived enemies to see what charges might stick in court, even if they are made up. Schiff owns multiple houses, so why not try to spin that into something bad?
Basically, look up every bad thing that Republicans accused Biden of doing in Jim Jordan’s “Weaponization of Government” committee, and Republicans are doing that right now.
Peter: … because of this decision, your private info is functionally within the control of the White House, right? Which is something that wasn’t true before. Access to enough information that you can imagine not just is there potential for, like, mass surveillance here outside of the scope of, like, the NSA and the FBI but, like, political retribution, right? They have, like, a roadmap for whatever authoritarian shit they want to do. It’s just like it greases the wheels for authoritarianism in so many different conceivable ways that it’s hard to list them off. But I mean, the basic bottom line here is the Supreme Court just handed Donald Trump a list of every single person in the country, how much money they’ve ever made, where they’ve lived, some of their medical histories.
Josie: Mm-hmm. Their connections, their family members, their former roommates, their educational history.
Peter: Their social networks to some degree.
Josie: Mm-hmm.
Peter: Who have you lived with? Who have they lived with, right? It’s wild to think about what could be done by the administration if they really wanted to put this data to, you know, quote-unquote “good use.”
Josie: I feel like the scariest part is almost the bank account information. It’s like you don’t—like, this is just basically pretext to cut you off from any kind of source of money you have. It’s just—it just essentially, like, gives them power to ruin your life like that very easily, very efficiently.

Man, remember when people were saying that unironically a few years ago?

This country’s gotten screwed hard by the arrogance of our ruling class.

We can’t always count on them to be that stupid, but critical thinking really doesn’t come naturally to Nazis.

The way they fell all over themselves to kill stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment as quickly as possible in 2021 was super telling, there’s a lot of Dems that fear empowering working class people more than anything so they’re constantly trying to route government money through state agencies or nonprofits or businesses to make sure “responsible” people get to set conditions on things poor people need to survive
gAlienLifeform@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump administration dashes hopes of anti-pollution plan for JD Vance’s home town810·4 days agoSteelmaking is essential.
If that’s the case we should nationalize it and quit giving taxpayer money to these billion dollars leeches
it was a good investment by the Biden administration.
No, it was naked corruption in the face of rising fascism that moderate Dems were too busy giving kickbacks to their friends to effectively prevent
The idea of SCOTUS being any kind of impartial arbiter of justice has been made into a complete joke because of bullshit like this and too many other incidents for me to count. Whenever we get the corrupt bastards off that court they are going to have to overturn so much garbage from the past 20 years or so.

She might be the best option in this race, but there have been way too many times in the past twenty years where a progressive who blew up overnight and scored an “upset” win turned out to just be another establishment shill all along.
