Basically any TV out there you can get rid of the annoying post processing. But none of them are going to be that way out of the box.

Technology@lemmy.world•Affinity’s new design platform combines everything into one app | The VergeEnglish
25·7 days agoI’ve used both Photoshop and GIMP, in fact I used GIMP first and that’s what I learned on. Then I tried Photoshop and it was immediately way more intuitive as to where things are and how the UI works, same with Affinity based on my little experience with it.
Older FOSS stuff tends to struggle quite a bit with UX, which makes sense cause it’s mostly programmers and not UI designers working on it.

8·7 days agoOh for sure, I’m never paying Adobe anything. More just speaking on some frustration that GIMP seems to be sitting in the exact same location it has been for so long.

24·7 days agoI get where you’re coming from, but GIMP honestly just kinda sucks from a UX perspective nowadays. The core of the app seems to be fine, but it’s just not particularly intuitive to use compared to the commercial offerings.
Maybe that’ll change one day, but it really does feel like the interface has been the same for the past 15 years at least.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI moves to allow “mature apps” on its platformsEnglish
14·7 days agoI’d generally agree, the industry itself seems to be high risk for exploitation because of the very nature of it.
Realistically though this isn’t going to help that much, most AI generated content that tries to look real ends up quite uncanny. So this is probably more likely to cannibalise some of the least problematic parts of the industry like digital art.

Minecraft@lemmy.world•The oldest Minecraft server, MinecraftOnline, is being shut down by MicrosoftEnglish
1362·9 days agoI get why people are having trouble defending them but it’s really not cool that Mojang is pushing to enforce their own personal requirements on self-hosted servers. It’s one thing if it was an official server or hosted on realms or something, but this is just a bit too far in my opinion.
And given the recent pivots by tech companies in the US there’s very little reason to think this same set of rules couldn’t be applied to groups like trans people in the future.
It’s better to push back on this sort of stuff early, instead of waiting for it to personally impact you once it’s already built up momentum.
I used to see images like this explaining what an astigmatism was and just thought “well your windshield can cause this too so that’s probably what I’m seeing”
I genuinely don’t know why this was the conclusion I came to. Got an Rx for glasses a few years ago now and like most of my family I have a mild astigmatism.
There’s a difference between dialects and different spellings of the same words and just flat out using the incorrect word for the meaning you’re trying to convey.

Technology@lemmy.world•Asus moves US-bound manufacturing to avoid tariffsEnglish
14·3 months agoIt’s really quite insane, I’m from Canada and want a strong manufacturing industry here because it became clear during the pandemic that the manufacturing industry here is insanely anemic. The current admin however is just running on the most insane premise possible.

Technology@lemmy.world•Asus moves US-bound manufacturing to avoid tariffsEnglish
50·3 months agoCrazy, it’s almost like just tariffs don’t make companies build in the destination country and you actually have to incentivize the choices you want those companies to make.
The supply chain for electronics is established in Asia, if you want to build in North America then you need to help ease the pain of the distance from that supply chain so people are actually interested in making a new one elsewhere.

1·5 months agoDepends if you can actually find a 9070XT at the price they advertised it at. Once that happens I’ll be convinced, right now though that’s very much felt like a bit of a bait and switch. Holding out hope though.

1·1 year agoTo justify the salaries of their product managers

It’s been long enough now that I can’t really remember off the top of my head. I want to say I started using Photoshop about a year or two after CS6 came out? And I would have been using GIMP for at least a few years prior to that before I had ever even seen the Photoshop UI.
