Nature is very cruel, but not so evil to evolve suffering in animals who don’t have the capacity to learn from it.

1·11 days agoInnovation funds in EU projects mostly get used for valuable things the companies wanted to do anyways. Give it an AI spin, build the thing, see if the spin has added value and if not just drop it and keep the core thing.
We’re using AI funds to build a thing that happens to use a vector db and xgboost. Not genAI at all but it’ll work and you can phrase it as AI so the paper people are happy.

1·12 days agoIt’s kind of besides the point. Yes they don’t add anything unique and yes it was most likely because if hype, but NFTs is just what they used in the wip to store the signatures on, but the core principle is flawed no matter what you put it on.
Sorry I thought you suggested DNS to solve the core issues.

1·14 days agothen you know for sure that CNN released it.
Why not link to the original CNN source then, if you want to be trusted? You’d have to do that anyways if you want to use the CNN footage in your own video.
I don’t think people who care about the validity of a news video will be helped much with this, and people who don’t care about the truth can easily ignore it too.
As a news organisation they should have their own due diligence about sources etc
But what if they can’t anymore? News orgs don’t only show video that they recorded. They have videos from freelance reporters, people who were at an event, government orgs, other news orgs in other countries…

Technology@lemmy.world•A.I. Video Generators Are Now So Good You Can No Longer Trust Your EyesEnglish
1·15 days agoThe point was to sign AI footage so you know what’s fake. NFTs can be used as a decentralized repository of signatures. You could realistically require the companies to participate, but the idea doesn’t work because you can edit footage so it doesn’t match the signature. More robust signatures exist, but none is good enough, especially since the repo would have to be public.
Signing real footage makes even less sense. You’d have to trust everybody and their uncle’s signature.

“Survival of the fittest” is about a species, not an individual. For larger animals pain and pleasure are the greatest teachers, because we can learn from those. These species benefit from individuals learning survival skills. Insects have no use for it, they don’t learn to adapt, they survive through numbers, their behavior adapts through evolution.
They react to damage the same way plants do. If you want to call that pain, sure. It doesn’t make sense evolutionary that they would suffer from it though.
And we know it’s not inherent to life. Even some people are born without nociceptors because of genetic issues. Not-suffering is a big problem, kids get infections etc because they don’t learn to stop hurting themselves.
