Linux@programming.dev•Steam Frame and Steam Machine will be another good boost for Flatpaks and desktop Linux overall too
33·1 month agoAnything over 600 is dead on arrival IMO.
In that case it would be valve having learned nothing from the failure of the previous steam machines largely owing to obscene pricing.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Nintendo 3DS prices skyrocket up to 76% — vintage Nintendo console rivals the cost of a brand new Switch 2English
4·1 month agoStill using my release edition 3DS here (modded to hell lol).
I think a big part of the popularity is the portability. The whole folding family of devices from Nintendo naturally needs no case (the screen is protected), and it fits easily in pockets where the switch 1/2 doesn’t. Also it has a huge library of games that you can get for “”free””).
As for the more recent popularity, I think with how much Nintendo is jacking up the price of the switch2 and games, of course some people will look to older hardware, especially if they never experienced it when it was new. I’ve been a diehard Nintendo guy since the GBC and N64, but I’m skipping the switch 2.

1·2 months agoI had a bit of playtime in civ vii (literally only on release and then never touched it again lol) and peak (amazing coop) which were 2025 releases, but yeah, most of my playtime was definitely older titles that I picked up on sale.
Spider-Man remastered (fantastic), hitman (also great), dredge (short but fun), red dead redemption2, and a bunch of older indies accounted for the lions share of my playtime.

3·2 months agoIt’s a little nonsense, but “the mayor” could be some title that a mob boss or whatever chose for himself, like some kind of spiderman-esque kingpin guy.
Some real “Look at me, I’m da mayor now.” energy after the actual government failed.

Climate@slrpnk.net•EU to ‘push back petrol car sales ban to 2040’25·2 months agoAbsolutely pathetic by EU leadership. We’re still 10 years away, with plenty of time for them to retool their factories, and come out with new models, and they’re already giving up (“””pushing the date back””” lol).
For zigbee dongles, take a look at the SLZB-06. I used a sonoff usb dongle at first (which was fine), but then switched to the slzb which works nicer and lets you run it independently from your home assistant machine over Ethernet (you can still use usb if you like though).
I have like 50 ikea zigbee lights running off mine (plus the same amount of other zigbee stuff) and it works super stable with zigbee2mqtt.

15·3 months agoDdr4 is apparently out of manufacturing at a lot of places now, so it’s even more affected (at least in my market, prices rose more then ddr5)
It maintains the same temp, even when hot water temp or pressure is changing
I can’t speak for everyone but here’s what mine like like:

2·3 months agoI use both smart bulbs (ikea zigbee) and smart switches (shelly) together.
If you combine them with something like the adaptive lighting addon in home assistant then you can have the bulbs adjust brightness and color temperature depending on the time of day, while still keeping the original wall switch.
As for places like IKEA, they prefer smart bulbs since replacing lightbulbs is something any average Joe can do(so they sell more), whereas playing with switches generally requires an electrician.

7·5 months agoI believe these would be fine, as being able to stop the rear wheel via the chain is a kind of braking device.
Also, don’t most fixies have a small front brake anyways? I don’t see many fixed gears in Tokyo (probably due to the hills), but there was a ton of them back in canada where the front brake seemed common-ish.
Gorgeous photo, nice shot.

1·7 months agoFor me, the ability to move your taskbar to the sides of the screen. I use an ultrawide, and have plenty of horizontal space to spare, but very little vertical.
It’s a ridiculous regression, that only exists because MS engineers are too lazy to figure out how to put all their new taskbar junk like copilot, weather, news, etc. in a vertical setting.
