That sounds… Weird. Aren’t weapon systems always subscription based anyways due to the needs of training, spare parts, support, etc, which needs for military is always miles higher than for other sectors?
Also, subscription systems only work with online internet connections, whoever would want a weapon system with a remote kill switch for the manufacturer? Hells fucking no
That proposal sounds insane
And to think it all started with a set of horse armor in a game called… checks notes… Oblivion.
It was actually the stripper who ushered in the modern subscription-based internet.
Shoot now, pay later?
Image a missile being loaded with 100kg of explosives, but you only got the gold tier subscription with 50kg instead of platinum+ with advanced targeting, remote launch and 100kg explosives. 🤦
This is a MASSIVE money grab. Instead of paying up front and outright owning the equipment. Governments will now rent equipment and Infinitum. They will pay for that tank, ship, fighter etc multiple times over the lifetime of that equipment.
You also won’t have old equipment that can be just given away or sold at a discounted rate to allies or friends like Ukraine when an emergency occurs.
Neat, now if your gun can’t connect to the license server for some reason, you can’t shoot back.
Maybe it’ll use Dunuvo and now there’s a bunch of lag between pushing the button and launching the missile.
